Last month, in the first part of our blog series on the Power of Cloud, we discussed the importance of evaluating your organization’s business needs before exploring any technology projects – especially cloud-based technology projects. Whether it’s growing your business by launching a new OTT service or streamlining your organization by bringing down geographical barriers, all projects must be based on well-defined, shared business goals. An equally important task is to...

“Ultimately, the cloud is the latest example of Schumpeterian creative destruction: creating wealth for those who exploit it; and leading to the demise of those that don’t.” - Joe Weinman, Senior VP at Telx and author of Cloudonomics: The Business Value of Cloud Computing While Joe Weinman’s statement clearly matches the vision of his company, he is far from alone in describing the dramatic changes brought by cloud technology. In fact, most of our customers...

Dear Academy friends, We have some exciting changes happening here at the Dalet Academy. As you are probably aware, the Dalet Academy was launched in January 2015 as a free, online education platform for the media & entertainment industry. In the past 15 months, the Academy has served you and thousands of industry peers with blogs, whitepapers, webinars, and live presentations at NAB and IBC, and has also been the home of Bruce’s Shorts. During that time, we’ve also received...

Next up on our #PowerOfDalet blog series, and following up on our article two weeks ago on the Power of Analytics in Dalet AmberFin, we are now exploring the Power of Monitoring in Dalet Galaxy. While you can (almost) always troubleshoot and find a way to make your media files work, wouldn’t it be even better if you could maintain and even optimize your system performances over time, and identify potential issues at an early stage, before trouble sets in? If this is the case, we need to...

Dear Academy Friends,   Almost a year ago, in January 2015, Dalet launched an ambitious educational program for the broadcast media industry: The Dalet Academy. A smart mix of educational content ranging from videos, articles, white papers, case studies and events such as training sessions and webinars, the program had one goal only: provide media professionals with free, accurate, impartial and relevant broadcast educational materials. Not only addressing the Dalet community, the...

Lights, Camera, Action – CLOUD. A newsroom in the cloud to be exact: and, for those who knew about it, a stand-out highlight of NAB 2015. While the industry is buzzing about professional applications for Cloud, we are making the big ideas a reality.   At the big show in Las Vegas, journalism and communications students from local universities were given tablets loaded with Dalet On-the-Go – a mobile app designed for journalists in the field to stay fully connected to a Dalet...

Like music and sports, there is no better way to appreciate education (and truly make the most it) than live performance. If you are a hardcore fan of Jon Bon Jovi or Aston Villa Football Club (yes, American friends, I’m thinking about that soccer game!) like me, then you’ll understand perfectly what I mean: talent, passion and knowledge. I also could have mentioned sweat… which would have been far from stupid when you think about the bloody high temperature that triggers...

A significant and growing problem for post production houses and broadcasters is the ability to generate efficient, fast and accurate frame rate conversion.   Given that broadcasters now source and distribute on a global basis and have to deal with content at many different frame rates, temporal conversion is an imperative.   For example, temporal conversion will be required following mixed frame rate editing where video graphics may have been inserted into interlaced...
